Job Description
Headquartered in Ottawa, ON, Canada, our client is a market leader in Canadian distribution of audiovisual communication solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Intermediate Accountant to join our fast-growing team. Reporting to the CFO, your main responsibilities will be general accounting duties for the organization inventory accounting, accounts payable and data analysis. You will bring a "big picture" mindset and be highly motivated to help the company achieve its strategic goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will be an experienced accountant who has demonstrated a strong track-record of progressive experience in accounting within a warehousing or distribution environment. This candidate will also possess superior communication skills as well as a keen attention to detail.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Work with the Operations Manager to ensure inventory is accurate, this includes compliance with inventory controls, adjustments, investigating and correcting discrepancies, cycle counts and the annual inventory count.
- Enforcing sales and expense policies, including reclassifying expenses, ensuring correct capture of ITC's on expense reports.
- Month end duties will include, assigned balance sheet reconciliations, and adjusting journal entries, accruals, prepaids, margin analysis.
- Full cycle accounts receivable, analysing customer credit limits, applying payments to accounts, cheque deposits and collections as required
- Continually finding areas that require operational and financial improvement including accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Compiling and reporting to various government agencies and vendors (CRA, EPRA, etc.).
- Adhoc analysis as required using advanced excel functions (pivot tables, lookups) such as margin analysis, commission or SPIFF payouts.
- Invoicing, tracking and collection for DataVisual events and marketing development funds.
- Other tasks and projects will be assigned as required.
- Developing and maintaining strong internal controls.
- Maintaining the company's accounting records and financial systems, including establishing and upholding accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in similar role.
- Self starter, ability to work with low supervision, works well in a team environment
- Recently obtained or in pursuit of an accounting designation (CPA), or equivalent experience
- Advanced/Expert Excel skills
- Proficient in the use of Zoho Books, or cloud-based accounting and CRM software
- Preference may be given to applicants with financial experience in a warehousing and distribution environment.
